About Maximus Meridius

Maximus is a strong, fearless warrior, but he also has the capacity to love deeply. Despite the tragedies in his life, he is still devoted to the cause of justice, and wants more than anything for the Republic to be restored and the slaves to be freed. He was a Roman General who led his legions to many victories. He was favored by Emperor Marcus Aurelius because he is a good man, honorable General and was incorruptible. His wife and son were both murdered by Commodus and his village was razed.
